Topic: Loose valve seat Lemons repair
The number five intake seat has come loose in my Pontiac straight eight and was sitting cockeyed when viewed through the spark plug hole. I pulled the head off to have a meliorate look at the loose valve seat. During the process of removing the valve keepers the seat relocated back in its bore. I was able to pry the seat dorsum out and audit the bore, which appears to have no cracks. The seat drops in its bore and is removed easily, I would call information technology a slip fit. Using the Lemons hive mind, I am curious if anyone has used sleeve retainer or other locking fluid to repair a loose valve seat. I am not looking for a permanent repair, only something to get the engine running and cheque the viability of the accessories that I have accumulated. (Mayhap even work for the elapsing of a race weekend.) Thanks.

Some people peen or pale seats unremarkably if the machining didn't get too as they expected.
May be worth a effort before the next step of going to an oversized seat.
This is almost typically washed in small engine repair. YMMV

Threadlock makes a "begetting retainer" type fluid I used on a heavy duty rear axle for a bearing cup that was funuged.
Information technology filled 2-3 thousandths with no upshot and locked information technology in place tight.
I'll ship you the function number if I find the bottle.....Great stuff

Peening aluminum yes, but I wouldn't effort it on cast atomic number 26. Too brittle.

The staking method is tried and true on bandage iron.

Thanks, good to know. I would accept idea there was a risk of peachy cast atomic number 26.

Cast fe has some "give" to it and so this method should piece of work fine. Don't use a abrupt dial but a larger flat punch say about i/4"-5/16" depending on the size of the seat. Also don't only wail on information technology but do striking it difficult plenty to move the metallic.
Practice on a role of the block/head that doesn't affair to encounter what it volition take.

Yep, but checked it loctite bearing mount 680 is merely good for +300 degrees f

Y'all may be able to buy an oversize seat for it. Many seats come in +.005or .010". Mensurate bore and depth of old seat and contact a machine shop to club. Non expensive ,shipping will be more than than seat. I have repaired quite a few "staked" seats in my shop .
